A story of 2 families: Housing relief for low income and disaster-affected areas in Baja, Mexico
Since 2006, GreenWorld Restoration has delivered affordable, high-quality green housing solutions along Mexico's Baja Coast. Our homes have evolved through continuous improvements, focusing on proper sanitation, clean water, and adequate energy supply. Building in areas without existing utilities in Mexico has driven us to innovate beyond what would be necessary in the U.S.
Greenworld Restoration home #1 A family of six once lived in a makeshift shelter made from pallets, cardboard, and a tarp. GreenWorld Restoration built them a new home with a solid foundation in less than two days, using mostly unskilled volunteer labor. The home features indoor plumbing, an off-grid solar photovoltaic system, and passive solar hot water. After two years, the family enjoys better health and no utility bills.
Greenworld Restoration home #2 Maria, Jesus, and Gustavo lost their home to a wildfire on the Baja Coast in October 2007. With their home and livelihood gone, they faced a bleak future. On Thanksgiving Day 2007, a new home was built for them in less than two days, with the family participating in the construction. The house is designed to be wheelchair accessible for Jesus and offers protection against future wildfires. Now, over three years later, the family is thriving.
